’Wrought from the Earth’ the clay tobacco pipe industry in Northern Europe”

This year’s conference is a joint effort of the AIP and the Society for Clay Pipe Research (SCPR). The SCPR will kick-off the weeklong conference on Saturday the 23rd in the Potteries Museum in Stoke-on-Trent. On Monday the 25th the AIP will take over the torch with their conference a short distance away in Stone. The complete program for the SCPR and AIP can be found in the AIP newsletter #16.

Call for papers For this year’s conference the AIP is still looking for speakers. The theme of the conference is ‘Wrought from the Earth’ and aims to explore aspects of the clay tobacco pipe industry not only in England, but also in Northern Europe. We have interesting topics lined up but there are still some slots available and it would be a shame not to fill them. If you have a paper to present of a presentation you would like to give please contact our administrator, Susie White (admin@pipeacademy.org). Each presentation will last for approximately 15 minutes with an additional 5 minutes for discussion. The language of the conference is English

Booking The start of the conference is drawing near, some 8 weeks from now, and the deadline for signing up is even sooner. The organizers need to have the bookings and payments prior to September 1st. Regrettably, bookings received after this date cannot include the Gala dinner or any of the tours, which have to be booked in advance.

Special room rates have been negotiated with the Stone House Hotel. These rooms will only be held until 26th August so please do not delay in making your booking. Please make sure you tell the hotel that you are booking for the AIP conference in order to secure the special room rates.

Full information about the AIP conference can be found here in the AIP Newsletter #16.
